About Lotto
The National Lottery has run since 2000 under a series of operators — Uthingo, Gidani, and Ithuba (2015 to 2026). On 1 June 2026 Sizekhaya took over as the fourth operator. Alongside the handover, Lotto's number pool shrank from 1 to 58 to 1 to 52, jackpots became cascading (a monthly guarantee that the jackpot is won), and Lotto Plus 2 was replaced by Lotto 5 Max. SA Lotto has produced some of the largest individual lottery wins on the African continent, including a R110 million jackpot in 2018.

How to play Lotto
Buy a board for R5.00 at any licensed retailer or via the official National Lottery app and bank channels. Choose six numbers between 1 and 52, or use a Quick Pick. You can opt into Lotto Plus 1 (+R2.50) on the same ticket for an extra shot at a separate jackpot — Lotto Plus 2 no longer runs and has been replaced by Lotto 5 Max.
Prize divisions and payouts
There are eight prize divisions. Match all six main numbers to win the jackpot. Match five plus the Bonus to win Division 2. Lower tiers pay fixed amounts down to a free Quick Pick for matching three numbers. Approximately 50% of ticket revenue funds the prize pool; the rest funds Good Causes and operational costs.
