PowerBall XTRA: What It Replaced and How the Add-on Works

PowerBall had two add-on options in the past: PowerBall Plus and, later, PowerBall XTRA. On 1 June 2026, when Sizekhaya took over the National Lottery, PowerBall Plus was renamed and reworked as PowerBall XTRA. There is now a single R5 add-on.

PowerBall Plus (historic)

PowerBall Plus was the original R5 add-on that entered your 5+1 numbers into a second draw. It was discontinued and replaced by PowerBall XTRA on 1 June 2026. Old PowerBall Plus results remain archived for checking past tickets.

PowerBall XTRA

PowerBall XTRA is the modern replacement. Tick the 'XTRA' option when buying a PowerBall ticket (R5 add-on) and your same 5+1 numbers are entered into a second draw with its own PowerBall pick and separate prize pool. It is drawn on the same Tuesday and Friday nights as the main PowerBall, at 21:00 SAST. You cannot play XTRA alone, and the PowerBall range is 1–16 for both games since June 2026.

Which should you choose?

• There is no choice to make — PowerBall XTRA is now the only PowerBall add-on
• Add it if you already play PowerBall and want a second independent jackpot exposure
• It costs R5 extra and requires no extra effort — your existing numbers carry over
• If you're on a tight budget, the main draw alone still gives you full jackpot coverage
